Road safety poses a significant threat in urban areas, leading to numerous fatalities annually. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways reports alarmingly high rates of road traffic accidents, particularly affecting vulnerable road users like pedestrians and cyclists due to inadequate infrastructure and safety protocols.
Comprehensive road safety interventions, including enhanced road design, improved traffic management systems, and impactful public awareness campaigns, have proven effective. We at Raahgiri Foundation have adopted three-pronged strategies of Engage, Demonstrate, and Advance for promoting safer street layouts, robust traffic law enforcement, and awareness initiatives, paving the way for safer urban roads.
Street Redesign/ Redevelopment
The Foundation has transformed numerous streets like MG Road and Sector 58-67, prioritising pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure for improved public health, accessibility, and road safety.
Design Interventions: (Demonstrate)
Safer by Design is a principle that advocates for prioritising safety at the outset of urban planning and infrastructure development. Rather than relying solely on behavioural changes or retroactive safety measures
