Raahgiri Day x SundaysOnCycle: Reclaiming Gurugram’s Streets for People

When the streets of Gurugram transform into vibrant spaces filled with laughter, fitness, and community spirit, it can only mean one thing — it’s Raahgiri Day and #SundaysOnCycle!

On a refreshing Sunday morning, Sanath (Sector 18, Udyog Vihar) came alive as citizens chose pedals, footsteps, and smiles over car horns and congestion. The event, organized as part of #UrbanOctober, was a collaborative effort by the District Administration Gurugram, Gurugram Traffic Police, Gurugram Police, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram, Fit India Movement, and the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), with support from Nagarro and the Raahgiri Foundation.

The morning began with an enthusiastic flag-off by DCP Dr. Rajesh Mohan, IPS, who also joined participants on a bicycle ride — a symbolic gesture emphasizing shared responsibility in road safety and sustainable mobility.

More than 300 participants, including children, youth, and senior citizens, turned up to celebrate people-friendly streets and cleaner air. The car-free stretch was transformed into a lively, inclusive public space featuring:

– Zumba and fitness sessions energizing the morning,

– Street plays spreading awareness about air quality and safety,

– Creative art corners showcasing children’s imagination for greener cities, and

– Citizen pledges reinforcing commitment to sustainable and active mobility.

The atmosphere was electric — filled with music, colour, and hope — reminding everyone that Raahgiri Day is not just an event, but a movement. It’s a movement to reclaim our streets for people, to reimagine urban spaces as centres of connection rather than congestion.

As Gurugram continues to lead the way, Raahgiri Day inspires a vision of cities that are vibrant, inclusive, and truly livable — where every Sunday becomes a step toward a cleaner, safer, and happier tomorrow.
