On April 23, Raahgiri Foundation hosted a powerful “Walk of Hope” to mark Earth Month on the newly revitalized model streets of Maruti Udyog Vihar , Sector 18, Gurugram, that are developed by GMDA and MCG. The event became a major milestone with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Haryana, Sh. Nayab Singh Saini walking alongside the community to witness the transformation first-hand.
Accompanying him were other key dignitaries:
-
Cabinet Minister, Sh. Rao Narbir Singh
-
MLA, Sh. Mukesh Sharma
Their presence brought energy, endorsement, and a strong message of support for people-friendly, environment-conscious street design.
We were also joined by senior administrative leaders:
-
Sh. Shyamal Misra (IAS), CEO, Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA)
-
Sh. Ashok Kumar Garg, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram
These leaders have been instrumental in creating streets that prioritize safety, sustainability, and livability.
CM’s Message to Citizens:
Chief Minister Saini commended the fact that not a single tree was cut for this makeover, instead, more trees were planted.
“Better roads bring better ‘gati’ (progress). This is the kind of work we need everywhere. Let’s also support the PM’s call to plant ‘Ek ped maa ke naam’—a tree in our mother’s name.”
Reflections on Urban Renewal:
Cabinet Minister Rao Narbir Singh added:
“When Maruti first came to Gurugram, this road was full of potholes and chaos—it felt ‘anath’ (abandoned). Look at it now! Every city deserves roads like this.”
Why It Mattered:
This walk was more than a symbolic gesture. It showcased how committed governance, thoughtful design, and citizen participation can reclaim urban spaces for people and the planet.
From better air to safer streets, this model project sets the tone for future urban developments.
This #EarthMonth, we didn’t just talk about change, we walked it.
